Wondering if online therapy is the right choice for your mental health needs? This quick assessment will help you decide if remote counselling, whether in Brisbane, Queensland, or elsewhere in Australia, is a good fit.
1. Is Flexibility Important for Your Schedule?
• YES: Remote therapy offers you the flexibility to attend sessions from anywhere in Queensland, Australia, or even while traveling. It’s also a great option to help fit within busy schedules.
• NO: If you prefer in person sessions, find a great local therapist near you via Psychology Today. If you’re located on the Sunshine Coast, you’re welcome to come see me and my therapy dog Beanie! We’re located at Sugar Road, Maroochydore.
2. Do You Live in a Remote Area of Queensland or Australia?
• YES: Online counselling makes therapy accessible to people in remote or rural areas of Queensland and Australia where in-person mental health support may be harder to find. (Especially if you’re in the kind of community where it’s highly likely you’d bump into your in-person therapist at someone’s house or while grocery shopping.)
• NO: If you’re based in a larger city or region with plenty of therapy options, it might be easier to feel like in person sessions are a suitable option for you if preferred.
3. Do You Have a Quiet, Private Space for Online Therapy?
• YES: A private, quiet room is ideal for your online therapy sessions to prevent you from worry about being overhead.
If you don’t have a quiet, private space in your home (thin walls? roommates? parents? etc.) and want to attend online, here’s a quick tip: some of our clients actually do therapy from their car or a nearby park.
• No: If privacy is a challenge, consider using noise-cancelling headphones, white noise, or scheduling sessions during quieter times to ensure confidentiality.
4. Are You Comfortable with Accessing Online Therapy?
• Yes: If you can use a computer or smartphone to video call, remote therapy will be easy to navigate. At Golden Thread Therapy, you also have the option to book for a phone voice session if you prefer.
• NO: Don’t worry—most therapists provide tech support and instructions to help clients get started. In fact, we’ve never heard of our clients having any issues with accessing our online sessions using their unique link.
5. Do You Find Navigating Around, Commuting, or Being in Public Overwhelming at Times?
• YES: Another huge benefit to online therapy is that you can just jump on from your home, without the fuss and energy drain of navigating transport and the public. We get it, sometimes it just takes up all the spoons you have left. This is also an excellent option for clients who experience chronic illnesses that affect energy and pain levels. You can prioritise comfort and energy, while tending to your mental wellbeing.
• NO: Love that for you! Choose whatever you like. We’re available for sessions in Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast and occasionally in Brisbane. We’re also available online.
